Sono nato ad Alessandria il 10 maggio 1961, dopo gli studi di filosofia e pianoforte ho iniziato giovanissimo la carriera giornalistica. Prima sull’Europeo e poi dal 1987, chiamato da Giovanni Valentini alla redazione del settimanale L’Espresso, giornale dove ho lavorato per 16 anni. Dal 1993 al 2001, sotto la direzione di Claudio Rinaldi, sono il responsabile delle pagine culturali e per più di un decennio uno dei critici letterari del settimanale. Sono stato editorialista di Panorama e dell’Unità. Tra il 1988 e 1989, con lo pseudonimo di Mamurio Lancillotto ho scritto stroncature letterarie per l’inserto culturale del Sole 24 Ore.
