Mihkel Mutt
Mihkel Mutt studied philology and journalism at the University of Tartu from 1971 to 1976. After completing his studies, he was an editor at a publishing house and for various literary journals until 1987. He's been also a dramatist at a youth theater (Noorsooteater), worked for weekly newspapers. and written scripts for TV-series.
Mihkel Mutt was a member of the literary cooperative "Kupar" that was founded in 1987 by ten writers as the first non-state publishing house in the former Soviet Union. From 1992 to 1999 he was the president of PEN Estonia
From 1997 to 2005 Mutt headed the cultural journal Sirp. He has been the editor-in-chief of Estonia's foremost literary magazine Looming since November 2005.

Virginie Despentes
Virginie Despentes is a French writer, novelist and filmmaker, born in Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle. Andreï Makine
Andreï Makine was born in Krasnoyarsk, Soviet Union on 10 September 1957 and grew up in city of Penza, a provincial town about 440 miles south-east of Moscow. As a boy, having acquired familiarity with France and its language from his French-born grandmother (it is not certain whether Makine had a French grandmother; in later interviews he claimed to have learnt French from a friend), he wrote poems in both French and his native Russian.

Õnnepalu was born in Tallinn and studied biology at the University of Tartu from 1980 to 1985. He began his writing career as a poet in 1985 and has published three collections of his works. In 1993 he garnered international attention when his novel Piiririik (English translation: "Border State") was published under his pen name 'Emil Tode'. The book was translated into 14 languages and became the most translated Estonian book of the 1990s. That year, he received the annual literary award given by the Baltic Assembly.
Õnnepalu's work often explores topics such as homosexuality, isolation and betrayal.

Rein Raud
Rein Raud was born in 1961 as the son of Eno Raud and Aino Pervik, both authors of popular books for children as well as novels and poetry. He graduated from St.Petersburg University (Japanese Studies, 1985) and defended his doctorate in the University of Helsinki (Literary Theory, 1994). In addition to novels, stories, poetry collections and essays, he is the author of numeorous academic publications in the areas of cultural theory and especially classical Japanese literature and philosophy, as well as a number of translations, mainly from Japanese into Estonian.
