  Peter Mayle was a British author famous for his series of books detailing life in Provence, France. He spent fifteen years in advertising before leaving the business in 1975 to write educational books, including a series on sex education for children and young people. In 1989, A Year in Provence was published and became an international bestseller. His books have been translated into more than twenty languages, and he was a contributing writer to magazines and newspapers. Indeed, his seventh book, A Year in Provence, chronicles a year in the life of a British expatriate who settled in the village of Ménerbes.   Virginie Despentes

  Virginie Despentes is a French writer, novelist and filmmaker, born in Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle. Her most famous novel, and film of the same name is Baise-moi, a contemporary example of the exploitation films genre known as rape and revenge films. Her most recent biographical, non-fiction work, King Kong Theory has also been translated into English, and recounts her experiences working within the French sex industry, and attendant infamy and praise associated with the aforementioned Baise-Moi.

  Annie Ernaux

  The author of some twenty works of fiction and memoir, Annie Ernaux is considered by many to be France’s most important writer. In 2022, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. She has also won the Prix Renaudot for A Man's Place and the Marguerite Yourcenar Prize for her body of work. More recently she received the International Strega Prize, the Prix Formentor, the French-American Translation Prize, and the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation for The Years, which was also shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize in 2019.   Andreï Makine

  Andreï Makine was born in Krasnoyarsk, Soviet Union on 10 September 1957 and grew up in city of Penza, a provincial town about 440 miles south-east of Moscow. As a boy, having acquired familiarity with France and its language from his French-born grandmother (it is not certain whether Makine had a French grandmother; in later interviews he claimed to have learnt French from a friend), he wrote poems in both French and his native Russian.

  Nina Lykke

  Tõnu Õnnepalu

  An Estonian author and poet who also writes as Emil Tode and Anton Nigov.
  
  Õnnepalu was born in Tallinn and studied biology at the University of Tartu from 1980 to 1985. He began his writing career as a poet in 1985 and has published three collections of his works. In 1993 he garnered international attention when his novel Piiririik (English translation: "Border State") was published under his pen name 'Emil Tode'. The book was translated into 14 languages and became the most translated Estonian book of the 1990s. That year, he received the annual literary award given by the Baltic Assembly.
  Õnnepalu's work often explores topics such as homosexuality, isolation and betrayal.

  Rein Raud

  Rein Raud was born in 1961 as the son of Eno Raud and Aino Pervik, both authors of popular books for children as well as novels and poetry. He graduated from St.Petersburg University (Japanese Studies, 1985) and defended his doctorate in the University of Helsinki (Literary Theory, 1994). In addition to novels, stories, poetry collections and essays, he is the author of numeorous academic publications in the areas of cultural theory and especially classical Japanese literature and philosophy, as well as a number of translations, mainly from Japanese into Estonian.

  Kristiina Ehin on eesti luuletaja ja proosakirjanik.
  Ta on õppinud Tartu Ülikoolis eesti filoloogiat ja spetsialiseerunud rahvaluulele. Aastal 2004 omandas ta Tartu Ülikoolis magistrikraadi eesti ja võrdleva rahvaluule alal.   Maria Iordanidou
  Γεννήθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το 1897 και έζησε τα παιδικά της χρόνια στον Πειραιά και το Βατούμ της Ρωσίας. Φοίτησε σε ρωσικό γυμνάσιο, στη Σταυρούπολη, όπου τη βρήκε η Οκτωβριανή Επανάσταση.
